One of the ways Congregate serves the Charlottesville community is by serving as a fiscal sponsor to groups that align with Congregate’s mission. Fiscal sponsorship allows local BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) led groups, and groups with an anti-racism focus, that are not ready to incorporate as non-profits a low-barrier, free-of-charge way to exist and organize without the fiscal and organizational burden.
Groups we have sponsored, or are currently sponsoring:
Fire Flower Farm (Kents Store, VA)
Cville Food Co-op
What is fiscal sponsorship?
Fiscal sponsorship means that Congregate is providing a way for a group to raise money and spend money within a structure of community accountability.
Congregate offers a two year fiscal sponsorship which can be renewed for an additional two years.
The goal is that at the end of the first two year sponsorship, the given group will have a sense of direction in terms of their non-profit and/or fiscal bookkeeping needs.
This fiscal sponsorship can be canceled (and any monies returned) at any time by either party with 48 hours written notice.
If your group is interested in becoming a fiscal sponsorship partner with Congregate, send us an email.
